Bend has no shortage of high-end golf. I’ve played most of them, and they are amazing. But not every round needs a $200 green fee and an attached resort.
Lost Tracks Golf Club is the kind of course locals actually play.
It’s tucked into the pines on Bend’s south side. It’s open to the public and features one of Central Oregon’s most memorable holes: an island green you reach by walking through an old railroad car.
So how does Lost Tracks Golf Course stack up, and is it worth your tee time? I’ve played it several times so this is my honest review.

The Golf Experience at Lost Tracks Golf Club
Don’t expect the private-club polish of Pronghorn or Tetherow. Lost Tracks is a laid-back, unpretentious public course, and that’s a big part of its charm.
The layout is old-school in the best way. Greens and tees sit close together, so it’s a genuinely walkable course without long cart rides between holes. In fact I usually walk when I play Lost Tracks.
The clubhouse has a pro shop, Depot 19 for food and drinks, and a driving range and practice area. These amenities are pretty standard for what you’d expect at a public golf course.
But at Lost Tracks, you WILL get a true Bend golf experience. Tall pine trees, views of the Three Sisters, and a high-desert landscape make golf a pleasure in this part of the world.
The Lost Tracks Golf Course Layout
Lost Tracks was designed by Brian Whitcomb, a former PGA of America president. The course is carved out of Ponderosa pines and bordered by national forest, so it feels secluded even though it’s minutes from town.
Expect lava rock outcroppings, several lakes, and a lot of doglegs. Driver isn’t always the play here, even on some par fives. I’ve hit driver too long on too many holes at Lost Tracks, and I’m not a particularly long hitter.
Shot shaping and smart positioning matter more than raw distance.
Some noteworthy highlights of Lost Tracks Golf Course:
- Par 72, 7,003 Yards from the back (Oregon Trail) Tees
- Tees: Oregon Trail (7,003), Deschutes Track (6,245), Bend Track (5,287)
- Bentgrass greens and fairways
- Iconic #16 par-3 island green, reached through a vintage railroad dining car
Here are my favorite holes:
Hole 4. A par 4 with great views of Mount Bachelor and Three Sisters from the Tee.
Hole 16. Very unique hole. A short par 3 (roughly 150 yards from the tips) to an island green, and you walk through an old train car to get there. Short iron, big nerves, be sure to take a photo.
My Recent Round at Lost Tracks Golf Course
I played Lost Tracks again in October of 2026, after a few years away. The first thing I noticed was a completely new and renovated clubhouse.
The practice area is also improved and in great shape for a public golf course.
Pro Tip: If you can, really encourage walking with a push cart, even if you only play 9 holes. It’s a short, walkable course and gives you a real feel for the high desert terrain.
Lost Tracks Golf Greens Fees
This is where Lost Tracks really stands out. Big bang for the buck.

A few extras to budget for:

Even at peak summer rates, you’re paying well under half of what a round at Pronghorn costs. And in the shoulder seasons, it’s one of the best golf deals in Bend.
The Lost Tracks Annual Pass
If you live in Bend and play more than a handful of times a year, the Lost Tracks Annual Pass is worth a look. There are several tiers:
- Lost Tracks Rail Pass – $299. The entry-level option. Includes one prepaid green fee, a USGA GHIN handicap, 25% off future greens fees, 20% off in-stock merchandise, and a discounted $20 cart fee.
- Twilight Pass – $1,395 single / $1,895 spouse. Unlimited golf after 3pm, seven days a week.
- Afternoon Pass – $1,895 single / $2,695 spouse. Unlimited golf after 1pm, seven days a week.

Cart and range add-ons are available, and there’s a range-only pass for practice junkies.
The Rail Pass is the no-brainer. At peak summer rates, it pays for itself in about 4 rounds.
The Lost Tracks Men's Club
Lost Tracks also has an active Men’s Club (LTMC) with 50+ members. The club plays three organized events a week (Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings) from April through October, with rotating formats.
There are also special events like inter-club matches and a Member/Guest tournament. Prizes are awarded using the USGA Handicap System.
It’s a great way to meet other golfers if you’re new to Bend.
Depot 19 and Other Amenities
After your round, Depot 19 at Lost Tracks keeps the railroad theme going. Grab a craft beer; you are in Bend, Oregon, after all.
Lost Tracks also offers golf lessons and classes for adults and juniors year-round.
Final Thoughts - Is Lost Tracks Golf Course Worth It?
One thing I love about Bend is the fabulous golf, and Lost Tracks is one of its gems.
If you want a fun, affordable, high-desert golf experience in Bend, Lost Tracks delivers. It’s walkable, scenic, and the #16 island green is a genuine Central Oregon bucket-list shot.
It’s not a luxury experience, and it doesn’t try to be. It’s not pristine, and it doesn’t have the most immaculate greens in town.
But you won’t notice, especially for the price.
If you’re a local on the southeast side, it’s a perfect home course. If you’re visiting Bend, it’s a great way to play quality golf without the resort price tag.
