Adventures from Bend Oregon to Frederick Maryland

Bloom Asian Haus Flowers in Downtown Frederick

A new restaurant has been in the works in downtown Frederick at the corner of Market and Third Street, and it has recently opened its doors.  Bloom Asian Haus has replaced the spot formerly occupied by Mirage Hookah Lounge, and it’s definitely worth a visit.

Bloom is a fusion restaurant that features various Asian cuisines that are served as beautiful appetizers and entrees.  But what first gets your attention at Bloom is the bright flowering decor of the dining room.

The Vibe at Bloom Asian Haus

Nicole and I’s first visit to Bloom was a bit uncertain.  You cannot make a reservation from the website, and I tried calling several times to no avail.

I finally used Google Assistant to make an automated reservation by phone (which I’ve rarely had luck with before).  But it came through for us with a Friday evening table for two.

Being a hot new spot in Frederick on a Friday night, Bloom was not surprisingly crowded and jumping.  The restaurant’s interior immediately gets your attention, as you can tell the decor and design team had a clear vision and went all out to create a bright, flowering style.

Despite having a small but inviting bar in the back, Bloom has no curated cocktail list.  They do have wine, beer, sake, and something called ‘soju’ (see below), and will make any cocktail you request.

Bloom Asian Haus Basics

Bloom Asian Haus is located on the north end of downtown Frederick, virtually across the street from Thacher and Rye.

Beautiful Appetizers and Entrees From Around Asia

The Bloom menu is quite eclectic, and there’s lots of direction you can go. First, in regards to drinks, being an Asian restaurant, Nicole and I originally were thinking of Sake. There are several sakes on the menu, but something called ‘Soju’ caught our eye, a drink from Korea that neither of us had tried before.  And we like trying new things.

Soju is a clear, distilled spirit that comes in a variety of flavors. The soju we tried was apple, and it was tangy and slightly sweet (and had ‘hangover’ written all over it).

For appetizers, Bloom has several dumplings; we ordered the Sizchu Wonton dumplings and accompanied them with a Scallop Ceviche appetizer and the Vegetable Tempura.  All were yummy, but Bloom gets the best marks for the beauty of their dishes.  Very creative plating!

Bloom also does Bao Buns, a Chinese creation that can be delicious when paired with pork or chicken.  The Bloom Honey Roasted Pork Bun was the cap for our meal.

Nicole and I did not even make it to the entree portion of the menu, which admittedly seemed a strange mix of Asian, pasta, and rice dishes.  But glancing around the room, the food looked appetizing and delicious.

The Stunning Decor Inside Bloom Asian Haus

While the menu and food at any restaurant is priority #1, we are all looking for eating experiences, and at Bloom a major part of the experience is the interior of the restaurant.  Its difficult to stop staring at the abundant colorful flower and fauna that decorate the dining room, and the burst of colors it creates.

The decor, matched with the beauty of the dishes themselves, really works and makes for a really unique Frederick restaurant experience.

Bloom probably could have rounded out a few edges, the quality of the floors for example don’t quite match, and the drink menu could definitely be elevated.  But you should definitely visit this hot spot.

Another Winning Asian Restaurant in Downtown Frederick

Asian food, be it Japanese, Chinese, Thai, or Korean, is some of Nicole and I’s favorite cuisine.  Frederick has some great options with Tsunami Ramen, Sumittra Thai, Lazy Fish, and Sapporo II Sushi.

Bloom Asian Haus is a great addition to the downtown Frederick Asian restaurant portfolio!
