Why Play at Challedon? The Golf Experience

- Solid, well-maintained golf course with interesting holes
- Lots of elevated tee shots
- Greens that are always in decent shape

The Links at Challedon Golf Course Overview and Layout
The setting of the Links at Challedon gives you a comfortable balance between scenic and accessible—not overly remote, but still offering a getaway feel. You’ll quickly forget that I-70 is 10 minutes away.
I find the course moderately difficult (I usually play from the gold tees – 3rd set). Here are some favorite holes:
Hole 2. An elevated tee shot on this par 4 that plays harder than it looks. Good view.
Hole 5. Difficult! Par 5 that you’ll be proud of if you par. The tee shot is tricky because a pond runs through the landing area of most drives.
Hole 17. Probably the signature hole at Challedon. This par 4 is reachable in two with a good drive. You need to navigate water on your approach.
In terms of greens fees, this is a mid-tier golf course. You can almost always play The Links at Challedon for less $100, even at peak times.
Weekdays and late in the day, you can play for $50-60.
Bottom line: a great value for a very nice course.
The Links at Challedon Facilities, Amenities, and Membership
This is not a country club, but the practice facilities are better than average for a public course. The driving range, putting green, and chipping area are all high quality.
The Grille is the on-site bar and restaurant at the clubhouse, and it’s great. Perfect for an after-round beer or sandwich.
The Links at Challedon Membership
This is a community golf course, and while it’s not a private club, it offers a great membership option for those who live nearby and want to play often.
A modest monthly fee gets you unlimited weekday golf, and discounts on weekend golf and virtually everything else at the club.
If you live nearby and play often, a membership may make sense from a value and convenience perspective.
How Challedon Compares to Other Frederick Area Course
We rank Frederick area golf courses, and within a 45-minute radius of this course, there are some fabulous alternatives. Worthington Manor, Whiskey Creek, and PB Dye, in my opinion, are all more exciting courses to play than Challedon.
However, I would compare The Links at Challedon favorably to some of its immediate neighbors: Rattlewood Golf Course, Glade Valley, and Clustered Spires.
If you are a local, put Challedon Golf Course on your rotation.
My Recent Round at Challedon
I played The Links at Challedon recently on a Saturday in October. The weather was fabulous, and the leaves were close to peak color.
Despite being a busy day at the golf course and a slight frost delay, I was impressed by how efficiently the staff got groups off the first tee.
One of the course highlights are the elevated tees, and they did not disappoint on this beautiful day. I was walking and the ups and downs turned into a real grind.
Final Verdict on The Links at Challedon
In short: if you’re in the Frederick / Mt. Airy area (or willing to drive a bit), the Links at Challedon is an excellent option that balances condition, amenities, playability, and price.
It’s especially well‑suited for golfers who appreciate a course with good facilities, reliable surfaces, and the possibility of membership without being overly exclusive.
If you want a solid round with strong value and a comfortable setting, this course should be on your radar.
