Frederick, Maryland, has a wealth of great breweries, but Olde Mother Brewing in downtown Frederick is one of Nicole’s and my favorites.
Olde Mother Brewing has many advantages as a brewery. Its prime location on Market Street makes it a staple in the community. Additionally, its partnership with Fifty Fifty Burger provides another enticing reason to visit.
Best of all, they offer delicious craft beer.
Olde Mother Brewing in Downtown Fredrick MD
Serving Craft Beer in Downtown Frederick Since 2015
Olde Mother was the first brewery I ever visited in Frederick. Because of its downtown location on North Market Street, I literally walked by it and decided to try it.
I’m guessing I’m not the only one who discovered Olde Mother in this fashion.
Turns out Olde Mother has been a mainstay in downtown since 2015. Founders Nick Wilson and Keith Marcoux have slowly built the business, including increasing the size of their production facility to keep up with demand.
Olde Mother Brewing: Basics
Olde Mother Brewing is located on the north end of downtown Frederick, at the corner of N Market Street and 6th Street.
It’s a great place to get a beer when downtown shopping, bar hopping, or before dinner at at downtown restaurant. Or just go there to hang out.

The Vibe at Olde Mother Brewing
Olde Mother is located in a converted downtown building and feels energetic as soon as you enter. There’s a long, welcoming bar and plenty of comfy seating. I’d describe it as a community hangout.
Because of its popularity and location, it gets crowded, especially on weekends. A secondary back room has plenty space, and also a small stage for performances and events.
My favorite place to sit at Olde Mother (when the weather allows) is outside. The narrow alley adjacent to the tap room is a cozy and characteristic seating area with picnic tables.
The Beers at Olde Mother Brewing
You’ll find a mix of traditional craft beers at Olde Mother with some distinctive, creative brews. The tap list rotates, so what’s available when you visit will vary.
Hank (American Lager) and Impressionist (IPA) are the most popular Olde Mother beers. I’ve seen both of these served at Frederick bars and Frederick restaurants.
While Hank is my personal favorite beer from Olde Mother, other notable beers I’ve liked are Festbier (Marzen), Umlaut Love (Kolsch), and Joose Juicy (New England Hazy IPA).
Fifty Fifty Burger: A Game Changing Food Partner
Visiting Olde Mother Brewery for the beer, the location, or the lively taproom is rewarding in itself. However, there is one more undeniable reason that brings Nicole and me back time and again, as I’m sure it does for others: Fifty Fifty Burger.
In the back room of Olde Mother, Fifty Fifty has an on-site kitchen where they serve mouthwatering burgers and fries.
Fifty Fifty’s burgers are made from a blend of half beef and half bacon, which is a key reason they are considered the best burger in Frederick.
In fact, if you pair a Fifty Fifty burger, fries, and a craft beer from Olde Mother, you’ve just created one of the best meals in all of Frederick.
Emphasis on Events and Community
As mentioned, the Olde Mother Brewery feels like a community hang out. Its clear part of its mission has been to be a place where Frederick residents come together for gatherings, events, and plain fun.
A quick glance at their events page reveals a packed schedule of book clubs, trivia nights, ‘bring your pet’ events, and, of course, happy hours.
It’s clearly a place where Frederick residents gather to socialize.
