Hi, I’m Nicole Eifler, co-founder of EpicBend and EpicFrederick with my husband Glenn. We’ve lived in Bend, Oregon and Frederick, Maryland for many years, and spend our time together exploring both places.

I grew up in Canada and spent much of my adult life in Edmonton, Alberta, where I fell in love with the Canadian Rockies. Today I’m a certified fitness instructor, an avid hiker and skier, and a devoted champion of Maryland wineries, and I visit every place I write about.

Fueled by Fresh Air and Adrenaline

My happy place is the great outdoors, particularly in the stunning mountains. Outdoor activities like hiking, mountain biking, skiing, and kayaking have been my lifelong passions, and I developed a profound appreciation for them during my years in Alberta.

In my spare time, you’ll most often find me exploring a scenic hiking trail, drifting along a river, fishing for the catch of the day, or enjoying a round of golf (mostly because Glenn loves golf).

Frederick and Bend are exceptional locations that cater to all these pursuits, and their breathtaking landscapes are a big part of why we hold such deep affection for these incredible places.

Always Scouting the Next Great Venue

To me, adventure extends far beyond the great outdoors. Discovering new venues, whether restaurants, wineries, breweries, or unique attractions, is half the fun.

Glenn and I have explored countless spots in Frederick and Bend, and we only recommend the ones we’d go back to ourselves.

Wineries are my particular passion. I’ve visited 15+ in and around Frederick and have become a dedicated advocate for the Maryland wine scene, watching it grow and evolve. Start with our guide to the best wineries around Frederick.

Globe-Trotter

As much as I love Frederick and Bend, I feel the call of the world. I’ve been fortunate to travel extensively throughout the U.S. and Canada, as well as many countries abroad.

This experience has honed my travel research and planning skills and deepened my appreciation for the local creatives who share their insights about their communities.

That’s part of what Glenn and I aim to accomplish with EpicBend and EpicFrederick: to be a valuable resource for visitors planning trips to the towns we know so well.

Certified Fitness Instructor

I have dedicated myself to embracing an active outdoor lifestyle, ensuring that my body is strong and capable of enjoying all that nature has to offer.

In recent years, I took this commitment a step further by becoming a certified fitness instructor. This allows me to empower others to achieve their fitness goals and lead healthier lives.

Leading fitness classes and guiding individuals on their wellness journeys not only fulfills me but also inspires me to continue making a positive impact in our community.

How We Choose and Review

  • We go in person. Every restaurant, trail, winery, and golf course we recommend is one we’ve visited ourselves.
  • We pay our own way unless noted. Comped visits and sponsored content are always clearly labeled.
  • We keep guides current. Each guide shows when it was last updated, and we remove closed businesses when we learn about them.
  • We tell you what we really think, including what’s overrated.

Have a question about Bend or Frederick? Get in touch, we read every message. You can also follow along on Instagram and Facebook, or join Bend locals in our Living in Bend group.
